The Dzanga-Sangha Reserve is located in the rainforest in the south-western part of the Central African Republic near the borders of both Cameroon and Congo. It comprises a total area of more than 4 000 km2 (more than 400 000 hectares). The two central parts of the Reserve, the Dzanga and Ndoki Sectors, constitute the Dzanga-Ndoki National Park, covering 495 km2 and 725 km2respectively.
ABOUT DOLI LODGE
Appropriately named Dolicom Lodge (meaning Elephant in the local Sango language) for the concentrations of forest elephants nearby, Doli Lodge's focus is on getting guests as close as possible to the remarkable rainforest world just outside the lodge's doors.
The first lodge in the Dzanga Ndoki National Park, Doli Lodge was constructed in 1996 with funds from GTZ (German Cooperation of Technical Collaboration), who, along with the WWF and the Central African Republic forest ministry, is a key partner in the Sangha River Tri-national Protected Areas.
For sixteen years Doli Lodge has been welcoming guests from all over the world, and offering them the rare rainforest comforts of a deck overlooking the Sangha River, bungalows with en suite bathrooms and a bar and restaurant serving European and African cuisine. More importantly, however, the lodge prides itself on sharing with its guests glimpses of a world at once mysterious and astonishing: elephants frosted with pink dust, gorillas toting their young through fruited trees, and the chanting of the BaAka hunter-gatherers as they disperse into the deep green of the forest.
Doli Lodge is proud to be a part of a unique collaboration in the Dzanga-Ndoki National Park where tourism directly benefits the people and wildlife in the park. When guests at Doli Lodge participate in activities, the funds for the activities directly finance the National Park's infrastructure, staff and conservation efforts. Further, individual visitors to Doli Lodge have been inspired to make donations which have funded smaller projects, such as constructing a community basketball court in Bayanga.
