Botswana Safaris: African Bush Camps ~ The Incredible Journey

ITINERARY DETAILS Day 1 – 4 Moremi Luxury Mobile Tented Camp, Okavango Delta On arrival into Maun, you will be met and accompanied to your charter flight to Moremi Luxury Mobile Tented Camp in the Okavango Delta where you will spend three nights. The Moremi Game Reserve comprises an area of 3,900 square kilometres and lies in the heart of the Okavango Delta. All the major habitats and ecotones are preserved here. Moremi is mostly described as one of the most beautiful wildlife Reserves in Africa. It combines mopane woodlands and acacia forests, floodplains and lagoons. It is this great diversity of plant and animal life that makes Moremi so well known. The reserve contains within its boundaries approximately twenty percent of the Okavango Delta. One may travel all day in some areas and not see another soul besides the animals on the savannah. To make the experience even more enjoyable many varied activities are available. Safaris by boat are the best way to see the water areas, whilst game drives are the best for tracking the animals. All the major predators as well as elephant, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, waterbuck, red lechwe and many more can be seen in this area. Wild dog whose numbers are rapidly dwindling elsewhere, are regularly sighted in the Moremi. Birdlife is prolific and varied, ranging from water birds to shy forest dwellers. Many of the Camp Sites are nestled amongst tall shady mopane trees. The Camps are set up prior to your arrival and each luxury tented accommodation lets one experience and savour the traditional African Safari. The room design and camp interior is designed with most comforts and luxuries one would not expect to find in the heart of Africa. The beds are luxurious with fresh linen, towels and all the amenities plus en suite bathrooms and the occasional out door shower. Guests can lie in bed at night and feel the pulse of Africa.  
Day 4 - 7 Khwai Luxury Mobile Tented Camp, Khwai Concession, After your last morning activity in Moremi, you will be transferred by light air charter to your next camp situated in the eastern section of Moremi called Khwai, where you will spend three nights at Khwai Luxury Mobile Tented Camp. Khwai is a private community run concession, on the eastern border of the Moremi Game Reserve along the river Khwai. The Khwai River forms a boundary between the reserve and the community area. The river is the sole source of water for miles around attracting wildlife from afar. As this is community run all proceeds from tourism go directly to help local people and local projects through the Khwai Community Trust. The camping is at exclusive campsites within the community area. This being a concession it allows you to conduct night drives, which are not permitted in the National Parks or Game Reserves, as well as the usual game drives or walks. Exploring after dark with spotlights offers you an opportunity to experience some of the nocturnal animals that are rarely encountered during the day. There is the added opportunity to explore the surrounding wilderness on foot and enjoy an up close personal encounter with the flora and fauna. The vegetation here is quite different from the Western section of Moremi where great stands of leadwood and mopane woodlands occur in close proximity to open grasslands and the Khwai River. The beauty of a mobile safari is that we leave the wilderness exactly as we found it, having little or no impact on the environment. We overnight at designated campsites which are mainly community run, which are little more than a clearing under a shady tree, with no permanent structures, electricity or running water. We bring everything with us and take it away again when we leave, including our rubbish. You will enjoy spacious and comfortable tented accommodation, beds and private en-suite bathrooms in remote wilderness areas. Wildlife encountered include lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, as well as a multitude of other animals, including elephant, buffalo, zebra, hippo and giraffe to name a few.    Day 7 - 10 Linyanti Bush Camp, Chobe Enclave After your last morning activity at Khwai Luxury Mobile Tented Camp you will be transferred by light air charter to Linyanti Bush Camp in the Chobe Enclave where you will spend three nights. Linyanti Bush Camp is a small, intimate 12 bedded tented camp on the banks of the Linyanti marshes in a private reserve, which borders the western boundary of Chobe in the Chobe Enclave. The camp is limited to small exclusive groups who seek a personalized experience in a private concession away from the main tourist’s routes. Activities from the camp consist of game drives, walking, spot lighting and hides. This safari camps provides the perfect atmosphere for an authentic and wild safari experience. The area is best known for its large populations of Elephant and buffalo that congregate in vast numbers especially during the dry season. Lion, sable, roan, leopard, wild dog, and a number of the plains game can be enjoyed at Linyanti. The rare and elusive sitatunga antelope, red lechwe, hippo and crocodile can be found in the surrounding marshes. The Linyanti Swamps are one of the most attractive areas in the park as it is the only source of water in the dry months where a lot of the wildlife moves to, boasting a great diversity of game and a restful atmosphere. The area's relative remoteness makes it a favored wild safari destination and one of the best sort after areas in Northern Botswana. The area also offers spectacular birding all year round and is best known for its enormous herds of elephants which move down to the Linyanti River at the start of the winter months and only move back inland once the main rains arrive.   
Day 10 – 11 Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, Victoria Falls After your last morning activity at Linyanti Bush Camp you will connect with your charter flight to Kasane. On arrival into Kasane you will clear customs and connect with your road transfer to Victoria Falls Safari Lodge where you will spend one night. The Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is set high on a plateau, which forms a natural boundary to the unfenced Zambezi National Park, and is just four kilometres from the majestic Victoria Falls. The Victoria Falls area has a number of exciting activities such as visiting the Falls, white water rafting, bunji-jumping, elephant rides, walking with lions and a great highlight is the ‘flight of the Angels’ a spectacular helicopter, fixed wing or micro-light flight over the falls. The deluxe Victoria Falls Safari Lodge prides itself on hospitality and food rivalled only by uninterrupted views and magnificent sunsets. Created with a keen eye for detail; hardwoods, thatch, vibrant colours - the effect is awe inspiring. Each bedroom has its own balcony, air-conditioning and modern bathroom. In the Buffalo Bar, Makuwa-Kuwa Restaurant and pool deck you will enjoy not only the wonderful views, but excellent service from friendly Zimbabwean staff renowned for their warmth and understanding of the needs of international visitors. An on-site waterhole attracts a wide variety of game, including elephants, buffalo, impala and kudu. Dinner at the Boma is a must for all visitors to Victoria Falls.   
Day 11 - 14 Somalisa Camp, Hwange National Park After breakfast at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge you will be road transferred to Victoria Falls Airport from where you will chartered by light aircraft to Somalisa Camp where you will spend three nights. Somalisa Camp is set in the heart of Hwange National Park, known as the land of the giants for its big elephant herds. Somalisa is an authentic bush camp, a blend of old African charm and elegance together with an exclusive safari experience. Its stunning location tucked away on an acacia island along the edge of an ancient seasonal flood plain gives it breath taking views of the savannah plains of the famous Kennedy Vlei line. At Somalisa Camp, you will experience the heightened romance of the African Bush in one of the most natural environments in Africa. This is the way Africa was meant to be explored. The lounge and dining area is at the forefront of the camp, tucked under a soaring canopy of trees. Wide and well-traversed Elephant paths make up the paths connecting your room to the main area. Activities include guided walks lead by qualified and passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you, game drives and spot lighting as well as game viewing from hides. Walking and game drives will allow you the opportunity to observe elephant, kudu and sable antelope, zebra, wildebeest, gemsbok, the rare and endangered roan antelope, buffalo, giraffe, white rhino, lion, leopard, hyena, and many other wildlife species. The Kennedy vlei is littered with flamboyant colors from all its seasonal wild flowers that emerge as the first rains begin, and as the grass dries out, the large herds of buffalo, zebra and elephant are in abundance.
