Kalahari ~ Vintage 5 Camp

A stay at Jack's Camp is a true encounter with the vastness and isolation of the Kalahari and Makgadikgadi pans. Originally established by the late Jack Bousfield in the early 1960s, it has continued to be developed by his son, Ralph and Ralph's partner, Catherine Raphaely. The camp creates an oasis of civilization in a harsh environment.

Jack's is furnished in a traditional East African 1940s safari style - authentic, comfortable and elegant. Ten very private, spacious tents, classically styled, are built on decks and set in a palm grove.

Each tent has a beautiful en-suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers, flush toilets, hot and cold running water. A safari at Jack's is the complete desert experience, focusing on desert-adapted wildlife as well as the geology, archaeology and anthropology of the Kalahari and Makgadikgadi.

Quad bike excursions onto the vast saltpans, walking safaris with San (Bushman) trackers, an interactive encounter with a meerkat family and a rare opportunity to see one of Africa's most elusive carnivores, the brown hyaena, are just some of the activities to be enjoyed while at this original camp.
