South Africa Accommodations: Selati Camp

Selati Camp ~ Premier 6 Camp

Selati Camp

Situated within the southern section of the Kruger National Park in the exclusive proclaimed Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Sabi Sabi embraces the most desirable tracts of unfenced 'Big Game' country in Africa. It is blessed with a great bio-diversity of habitat and wildlife, giving guests an excellent chance of experiencing close encounters with the 'Big 5' as well as a myriad of other wild animals and the prolific bird-life. Qualified game rangers and legendary Shangaan trackers take guests on day and night safaris in open 4x4 Land Rovers into the heart of the African bush. For the more energetic, there is the daily option of walking trails.

Selati Camp, named after the Selati Railway line that crossed the Sabi Sand Reserve, has been meticulously created as an authentic home in the bush with exclusive personalised service, offering guests an unforgettable African experience. On the banks of the Msuthlu riverbed, Selati Camp is strategically situated between the Sabie and Sand Rivers, on the traditional game migration path from the Kruger National Park. Originally created without electricity to preserve the ambience, the camp now has overhead fans and air-conditioning, but is still lit at night by the gentle flicker of oil lamps, the warm glow of fires and the spectacular canopy of the southern night sky.

The 8 luxury thatched suites, each with full bathroom en suite and private outdoor shower, blend perfectly into the surrounding bush. The camp's premier accommodation is the Ivory Presidential Suite offering 19th century colonial grandeur in the form of original antiques, a draped four-poster bed, private terrace, fireplace, a very private pool, a personal attendant and in-room dining. The magnificent en suite bathroom, complete with Persian carpet and antique chaise lounge, also features a separate dressing room with an antique wardrobe and dressing table. While in camp guests help themselves to anything they need, including a full bar service. Home cooked cuisine is served on decks built over the riverbed, and dinner is in the open-air boma or in the tram house kitchen.
