South Africa Safaris: Premier Diamond Mine Tour ~ Underground

The small town of Cullinan lies 100km (70 miles) northeast of Johannesburg, where the open grassland of the highveld gives way to the bushveld stretching away to the north. The town owes its existence to the Premier Diamond Mine, established in 1902 by Thomas Cullinan. The famous 3 106-carat Cullinan diamond was discovered here in 1905 and, although no longer in its original form, remains unequalled in size. A short video presentation offers an introduction to the diamond mining industry in South Africa, followed by a guided walking tour of the mine surface. After the tour, refreshments are available (not included) before returning to Johannesburg.

Your guide will transfer you to the Premier Mine, where you join a scheduled guided underground tour lasting four hours. After the tour, the guide will meet you for a light lunch, before returning to Johannesburg.

AVAILABILITY:	On the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month, except Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday - maximum of 10 people - must be booked well in advance!
DEPARTURE TIME:	06:30 - the tour of the mine begins promptly at 08:00
DURATION:	+/- 8 hours
PICK-UP & DROP-OFF:	Jo'burg or Pretoria Metro areas, including Johannesburg International Airport
LUNCH:	A light lunch is provided, including soft drinks.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING RESTRICTIONS ON PREMIER MINE TOURS: Children under 16 years are not permitted on the underground tour. Participants on the underground tour should be in good health and reasonably fit. Comfortable casual clothing and walking shoes are recommended. The underground tour is not recommended for persons who have respiratory problems, difficulty with walking, or who are claustrophobic.
