Why Sensational Summer?

• Namibia is a true year-round destination with far less extreme seasonal changes than other parts of southern Africa.

• In summer, many regions become gloriously productive with vibrant floral displays complementing an already varied kaleidoscope of colours. Seemingly barren ephemeral rivers briefly flow, the red-rocky Damaraland can burst into emerald green and a myriad other ecotones momentarily come to life, exploiting the seasonal abundance. The Skeleton Coast remains magical all year round.

• There is also an explosion of new life as many wildlife species give birth to their young over this time.

• Best season for birding. Many special resident species breed at this time such as Rüppell’s Parrot and White-tailed Shrike which is complemented by the arrival of migratory species – both intra-African and Palearctic.

• Summer mornings are exceptional thanks to the beautiful light and calm conditions. The temperature is perfect for warm pre-dawn starts to the day, happy in the knowledge that, like the animals, you can doze off in the warmer midday amongst the soothing vistas for which Namibia is so famous.

• Far more intimate experience on offer owing to fewer travellers at this time of year.

• Rates are 30% lower, providing a more affordable period to experience Namibia, its wildlife and phenomenal wilderness areas where preconceived ‘negatives’ such as rainfall are not a concern.

• Mean annual rainfall in Etosha is only around 430mm, mostly recorded in late summer between January and March. In stark contrast the mean rainfall at Sossusvlei only measures around 63mm mostly between February and April. Summer rainfall in many other parts of Namibia is negligible apart from the distant Caprivi Region.
