Summer is a special time in Africa. It is the time when there is a kaleidoscope of colour with rich landscapes, an explosion of new life with many species giving birth to their young and a myriad bird species to be seen. These mostly exclusive safari areas continue to offer frequent predator sightings as they take advantage of the glut of inexperienced, younger prey. Dramatic summer skies with imposing cumulonimbus clouds and a tapestry of green exploding with seasonal abundance provide ideal photographic opportunities of an endless assortment of subjects!

Nestled under a grove of ancient false mopane trees, Davison's Camp is situated on the remote southern boundary of Hwange National Park in the private Linkwasha concession. Named after the founder of Hwange National Park and its first warden, Ted Davison, the camp overlooks an extremely productive waterhole that attracts a variety of plains game and predators. This 20-bedded camp, with its 9 twin units, 1 family unit which sleeps 4 comfortably and separate main area, comprising a lounge, dining room and an open air fire area, offers a wonderful bush experience.

The Linkwasha area includes many diverse habitats, including Kalahari savannah, acacia woodlands, as well as palm islands and teak forests. This habitat diversity attracts many different animal populations and over 400 species of birds and the area is known for its abundant wildlife, particularly the predators, as well as large herds of elephants and buffalo during the winter months. Summer months offer a complete contrast, as many of the plains animals (and their predators) migrate to this section of the park to enjoy the lush grazing on the open savannah. Daily game activities include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, or guided walks in the early mornings and evenings, while during the siesta hours, guests can view game coming down to the waterhole to drink from their tent verandah.

The River Club lies dreaming in dappled shade on the Zambian banks of the Zambezi River, 18km upstream from the world-famous Victoria Falls. Its main area is a well-appointed Edwardian-style house, with a comfortable lounge, large dining room, impressive library and wide veranda on which breakfasts and teas are taken. Manicured lawns (where midday meals are often served) spread out beneath the trees and a croquet court is an ideal venue for a Pimm's-soaked croquet game. The pool has been built to seem part of the river itself and a secluded deck with hammocks and loungers provides respite. Meals can also be enjoyed on occasion in the summer house or gazebo.

Ten luxury thatched chalets overlook the Zambezi River and have en-suite facilities including a bath, shower, toilet and basin. All the rooms have fans and air-conditioning (hot and cold). The rooms are all completely open in the front, giving guests uninterrupted views of the Zambezi. Seven rooms have a concertina screen door or window which can be drawn across the front of the bedroom and/or bathroom.

Activities include a croquet court, boule pit, 2.5km running track, all weather tennis court, sundowner cruises plus visits to the Falls, Simonga Village, local markets and Livingstone. A variety of other activities are also available at an extra cost such as: white water rafting, bungee jumping, abseiling, and helicopter flights over the Falls. With the Zambezi National Park just across the river, hippo and elephant are regularly heard and seen, birdlife is particularly rich and tiger fishing is a challenge for keen fishermen.
