Set out under the African sun to explore some of Africa’s prime wilderness areas with our exclusive Explorations safaris. These
spectacular journeys allow guests to discover remote and pristine areas in diverse private concessions while enjoying the most
outstanding wildlife viewing. Our fully-serviced cross-country mobile safaris cater for small groups (operating with a minimum
of 2 and a maximum of 8 guests) on a scheduled basis or are tailor-made for private groups which allow for the most authentic
African experience today.
Explorations Types
Surpass your normal camping experiences with a choice of one of three categories:
Discoverer Explorations – This deluxe range of Explorations offers accommodation in a combination of luxury camping
areas (complete with walk-in Meru-style en-suite canvas tents) and Wilderness Safaris lodges.
Adventurer Explorations – Our camps are erected for the season, mostly in exclusive concessions, comprising spacious
en-suite “maxi” dome tents with hot bucket showers, sport stretchers and cotton linen.
Trails Explorations – This type of Exploration is the most active and offers the lowest carbon footprint, defined mainly
by the mode of transport – be it on foot or by canoe. Accommodation varies between Adventurer “maxi” dome tents and
Discoverer Meru-style tents as well as sleeping platforms.
Why Wilderness Explorations are Unique
Private Concessions
Most of our Explorations take place in private concessions, which means that guests have private access to some of southern
Africa’s most pristine and finest wildlife reserves. Your contact with other people, barring those on the journey, will be extremely
limited.
Travelling
Explorations are all about seeing the diverse habitats in which we operate. A variety of travel modes ensure a more fulfilling
wildlife experience. Each Exploration will use different modes of transport depending on the environment and distances
covered, however they will combine a number of the following – game drives, walking, mekoro, canoeing, boating and light
aircraft charters.
Flying is a wonderful way of appreciating the magnitude of your journey with aerial views of the ground you have covered.
While flying is not a part of every Exploration itinerary, many guests will experience this fantastic mode of transport when flying
in and out.
Guides
The secret to a fantastic Explorations trip is not only the magnificent wilderness, but your guide who leads the safari from
beginning to end. Our guides are passionate, experienced and highly trained local individuals who make the whole experience
seamless and interpretive from start to finish. Years of experience in the field and a depth of understanding of animal behaviour
and the environment bring a sense of complete wonder to the experience. Many of our guides are skilled photographers and
can assist you in taking amazing wildlife photographs. Highly sought after, these guides are also available to lead private tailormade
safaris and specialist trips – and some even offer multilingual departures.
Dedicated Teams
Each Exploration has a dedicated team who ensure a personal experience for our guests, thus ensuring their every comfort.
Camp sites are pre-erected seasonally and the team will handle everything from cleaning rooms, preparing meals and all other
