Victoria FallsThis is the most famous of the mighty waters and shared by neighboring Zimbabwe. In the C19th, the local Kololo tribe, called the Victoria Falls "the smoke that thunders", as their immense scale was so breathtaking. At the height of the wet-season five hundred and fifty million cubic metres of Zambezi river waters roar over the edge of a basalt cliff into the dramatic gorge over one hundred metres below. This area is becoming known for adventure-sports. White-water rafting and bungy jumping are both available for those seeking an adrenaline rush. Or you can simply take a relaxing canoe trip. There is an excellent craft village nearby where you can buy beautiful green malachite which the Zambians use to create intricate jewellery. Wood carvings and other curios and crafts can be bought or or even bartered for. Lower Zambezi National Park and South Luangwa National ParkThese two parks are both excellent for game viewing. The Lower Zambezi is a wonderful wildlife wilderness area where you can enjoy a tranquil, close-up wildlife experience on a canoe safari. Created in 1938, South Luangwa is green and fertile and boasts lush rainforest near the banks of the Luangwa River. Both parks have populations of wildlife; hippos, buffalo and elephant . The big predators are also here, including elusive leopard plus there is an amazing concentration of bird life. Zambia is terrific for walking safaris - scouts are armed and highly skilled. This is the place to try for a closer look at flora and fauna. Lake TanganyikaIn the north lies Lake Tanganyika, the second deepest lake in the world. The waters at the bottom of the lake never mix with the upper so it is thought that they may may have lain there for twenty million years. Lake KaribaIn the south, Lake Kariba, is a vast lake created by what was once the largest ever man-made dam.
