In 1855, the great missionary-explorer Dr David Livingstone was taken on an adventure down
the Zambezi River in a dugout canoe to see the "smoke that thunders." Nothing could have
prepared him for the sight he was about to see – one of the world's greatest natural wonders
– the broad, smoothly flowing Zambezi hurtling abruptly over a precipice 1 370 metres
(4 500 feet) wide into a roaring, mist-filled chasm 108 metres (350 feet) deep. Today, in tribute
to this phenomenon, visitors from around the world come to stand in awe as the swirling mists
filter through the rainforest fringing the magnificent Victoria Falls.
Just 38 km (24 miles) above the Falls, the Zambezi glides serenely and its verdant banks
have once again become a safe haven for Africa's fascinating wildlife. &Beyond Matetsi
Private Game Reserve is situated here and extends over 50 000 hectares (123 500 acres)
of pristine African wilderness. With 15 km (9 miles) of exclusive Zambezi River frontage,
Matetsi offers an unrivalled river experience in addition to spectacular game viewing and
birdwatching.

About the lodge
Set like a precious jewel on the lush banks of the great Zambezi River, the spectacular &Beyond Matetsi Water Lodge is a fusion of
teak, slate and thatch reflecting the spirit of ancient Zimbabwe and the legendary River. Shaded by waterberry and mangosteen trees,
the Lodge comprises three individual and intimate camps, each with six air conditioned suites complete with plunge pools, sweeping
views of the mighty Zambezi River, and ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers. Game viewing from the cool perspective of
the private plunge pool, or while enjoying a sundowner on the deck, is an unforgettable experience. The layout of each camp ensures
privacy and intimacy in an idyllic setting. Open sided, thatched guest areas house an elegant dining and sitting area with a large
