Day 1: Maun to Moremi Game Reserve
On arrival at Maun International Airport you will be met by a representative from Uncharted Africa and assisted with boarding your light aircraft flight to Xakanaxa airstrip in the Moremi Game Reserve.
Upon landing you will be met by your private guide and will immediately depart on a slow meandering game drive prior to heading into your private camp to arrive in plenty of time to enjoy sundowners followed by a three course dinner.
Three nights are spent camping at a private camp site in Moremi Game Reserve where regulations do not permit night drives, off road driving and walking.
Day 2: Exploration Day
As dawn breaks there is time for breakfast before heading out on a game drive. Expect to see a variety of plains game grazing peacefully on the floodplains and if luck is on your side you may come across wild dog or cheetah. The insight and knowledge of your guide will add immeasurable to your enjoyment and understanding of this unique wilderness area.
Return to camp for lunch and a siesta. After enjoying an indulgent spread of tea and cakes head out into the bush for sundowners.
Whilst parked beside a peaceful lagoon marvel at the sight of a herd of elephant drinking silently at the water’s edge. Moremi Game Reserve and the Okavango Delta is home to a variety of birds, especially from September when the migrants start to arrive. As the sun sets your guide will give an informal talk on the geology of the area.
Return to camp for a sumptuous dinner and some quiet downtime around the camp fire, Africa’s answer to television.
Day 3: Exploration Day
After a hearty breakfast set off on a full day excursion to explore further afield. Whilst searching for the creatures and plants typical of the Okavango Delta ecosystem your guide will tell you all about inter-species relationships and the systems in which they live. Should you come across elusive predators such as lion, cheetah and leopard there will be plenty of time to observe and interpret their behaviour.
A leisurely picnic lunch is followed by a siesta under the shade of an evergreen mangosteen.
The rest of the afternoon is spent seeking out your favourite species. Leopard spotting, lion tracking, cheetah chasing and dog discovering; if you want to watch lions mating for two hours or prefer to watch bee-eaters hawking insects on the wing then so be it.
Return to camp for dinner - tired, but happy. Over a delicious three course dinner your guide will share his love and passion for the African bush and its many inhabitants with you.
Day 4: Moremi Game Reserve to Okavango Delta
After breakfast, take a slow drive to a nearby lagoon where you swop your vehicle for a boat.
The crystal clear channels, serene waterways and deep open lagoons provide a wonderful contrast to the dry forest areas and floodplains of the last three days. Putt along the maze of channels, stopping to admire rare birds and the diversity of aquatic life. Spot small crocodiles basking in the sun on sparkling white sandbanks and hippos jousting for territory with spectacular splashes and clashing of jaws. Learn about the ecology of this fascinating ecosystem.
Stop at a sandbank for a picnic lunch. With the cooling Delta waters lapping at your feet there may be a chance of a quick dip.
Just after sunset arrive at your private, lantern-lit camp on an island set deep within the Delta. Shower and relax around the fire before a final dinner under a sky brimming with stars.
Tonight will be spent luxuriating in a mosquito net tent surrounded by nature at its best.
Day 5: Okavango Delta to Maun
Rise early and after a short guided walk around the island, hop back into your boat for a meander through the waterways. Marvel at the tranquillity of the lagoons and narrow, papyrus-fringed, hippo trails as you become immersed in the incredible spectacle that is the Okavango Delta.
Drift back to your vehicle for a final game drive and picnic lunch en-route to Xakanaxa airstrip. Bid your guide, who has by now become a trusted friend, farewell before transferring by light aircraft out of the Delta onto your next destination.
Day 1 - 4: fully serviced en-suite mobile camping
